I just finished China China Mieville's book The City and the City. Its a great mystery, and it raises philosophical questions. That's one of the things I love about art. When you look at a painting, read a book, or listen to a tune and it reaches into your head and flicks a switch. That point at which the metaphor and craft kick it together and fire a sequence of neurons that leaves you looking at the world in a whole new way.
Some times education works the same way those series of neurons fire and you wind up looking at art a new way. Charles Mudede, a writer for The Stranger does just that for me in his latest Slog post.
If nothing else I am going to use this as an opportunity to post a YouTube of "The Strings of Life." A house classic and anthem of unforgettable magnitude.
