Rythem is Rythem - The Strings of Life
The Strings of Life the definitive classic cut of House Music. It has everything that makes House Music great. In this Youtube video from FigFilm, Derrick May (AKA Rythem is Rythem) describes how he struck a cord with "The Strings of Life."
"... The mistake is that I did it to begin with, that was the mistake."'
Thanks for making the mistake.

Art is Beautiful, So is Life
I just finished China China Mieville's book The City and the City. Its a great mystery, and it raises philosophical questions. That's one of the things I love about art. When you look at a painting, read a book, or listen to a tune and it reaches into your head and flicks a switch. That point at which the metaphor and craft kick it together and fire a sequence of neurons that leaves you looking at the world in a whole new way.
Some times education works the same way those series of neurons fire and you wind up looking at art a new way. Charles Mudede, a writer for The Stranger does just that for me in his latest Slog post.
If nothing else I am going to use this as an opportunity to post a YouTube of "The Strings of Life." A house classic and anthem of unforgettable magnitude.

The Avett Brothers
The Avett Brothers put on one of the best live shows I've seen in the last few years and I see a lot of shows for my job. They should be one of the top Country acts but Country radio being what it is, they'll have to plow their way without support from big radio. Check them out and show them some love. The easily deserve it.

I am so getting this tomorrow!
This is just about the hottest thing ever. I saw a copy in my local gamestop and didn't pick it up. However, After watching this video and reading a couple of reviews on Amazon, I simply must rock it sooner rather then later.
Keep it locked for an indepth review, later.

Bit of tea with that?
British ryhmeslinger Kano brings a bit of hybrid track with "Hustler." Its one part British hip-hop, and two parts American Gangster Rap. I loved the video for "Huster's" play on gangster rap videos. You'll notice they are making music not drugs. There is also an interesting parallel in the videos use of drug business metaphors and the lyrical content of the song which seem to come together into an overall critique of the music industry. It's almost Mos Def like.
Its high grade dope, and these rhymes are addictive.

Matt and Kim
I'm not sure how they did this, or what it means, or if it all isn't just some attempt by the global nudist conspiracy to brainwash us out of our pants, but I like it. Its Matt and Kim's latest official music video, and its pretty cool.

KUTIMAN - Thru you
Kutiman, or Ophir Kutiel is HUGE right now. An musician and video artist from Israel, hes created a whole record cut from Youtube videos. As a result of this pure creativity he has been getting huge media attention. His youtube channel has won tons of awards for the traffic its getting right now.
I jacked the video above from palmsout. Its got a great break beat feel to it that just swings. Add in the creativity of the music, and the sweet video, you've got pure magic. In industry speak, "its a hit, baby!"
Cof Cof... SAFARI!
Cof Cof is back with a new mini-EP, Safari. Its the same indy-electro hybrid as last time, updated with a fuller and darker synth sound. Even though Safari is a darker album then Who Said Party. The combination is as intriguing as it was the first time I heard one of there tracks. Cof Cof keeps moving forward.
I've chosen two tracks to feature. First up is T-shirt. It highlights perfectly the new trend the album has taken. The sound is slightly darker, but its still a classic Cof Cof Party jam.
Get: Cof Cof - T-Shirt (mp3)
The second track is Suffering Safari. It's a great blend of Electronica and Indy rock. The guitars are pretty heavy, at the same time it has an almost hovertastic synth line thats developed. Its pretty angry. I don't know if they are just against Safari's or if there is some sort of cathartic metaphor going on in the song, but I can dig it either way. It reminds me of a Hemmingway short story I read recently.
Get: Cof Cof - Suffering Sufari (mp3)
Its a great album for after the grill has cooled, while your sitting out in the summer night sky sipping a Corona, or Miller Chill.
Their ablum is available for a limited time only here. (zshare)
Check out there myspace here!

Debate Music
I've been judging a lot of debate recently. It's good times. I spent a lot of time involved with the activity. I've also been listening to Pandora, and the other day Dispatch came on to the station I was listening two. Adding those two factors together, this post emerged. What I mean is... well you'll see. There was a lot of Dispatch blasting in Big Blue (the debate van and super computer).
Some Songs I used to listen to to psych me up.
1. Dispatch - The General
2. Saul Williams - Pledge to Resist (DJ Shadow Remix)
3. NOFX - Francounamerica
4. Rage Agianst the Machines - Renegades of Funk
5. DJ Shadow - Six Days
6. Dead Prez - They Schools
7. KRS One - The Sound of the Police
8. Deltron 3030 - Battle Song
9. REM - End of the world
10. The Decemberists - 16 Military wives
11. MC Front-A-Lot - Special Delivery (single mix)
