Hatiras - Space Invader

I just got back from a House night in Seattle at a club called Trinity. its a very cool club, I will probably post something more about it sometimes soonish.

This is a Music video from Hatiras. I had an oppertunity to interview Hatiras. He's a pretty cool guy, and lays do w i c k e d a w e s o m e sets. His producing is also what you might call really exceptional. One of my favorite records to drop is a compolation of tracks by him. It was a very good day when I bought the record. I also found the Mystery Mobile.

The Funk in Vancouver - Dave Armstrong

I don't know why Dave Armstrong is my House Hero. He's the one DJ I have always wanted to catch but never quite made it out for whatever reasons. Dave Armstrong is from the Vancouver area, which is pretty chill, because I used to live up by there. That might be why I like him. Although... it could just be that his music rocks.

If I had to sum up Dave Armstrong’s style, it would be funky. His funk ratio is off the charts. Forget what you think you know. Forget The Love is gone, forget Make Your Move. There is a whole world of Armstrong out there waiting to be discovered in the bins of your fine local vinyl dealers. His remixes and releases on Dj Dan's In Stereo lable where life changing for me. Add that great sound in his music to the fact thatDave Armstrong has been know to drop a mean set too, and you see why he's my number one favorite DJ/Producer.

Both his music and his DJing have been a huge influence on my style as a DJ. I would have been a lame ass trancecracker if it weren't for him. Below are some snippets of Dave Armstrong songs and Remixes. Check them out and be in awe.

This is the video to the song that blew him up. I guess we are to the point where young adults and cool peopleare being born in the 1990's. Sucks to be you if you were born in the 1990's, but I've got got love for you if were born in the 80's.

Ron Hardy and the History of House Music.

I have written before about Frankie Knuckles and how he is the founding father of house music, but just like a progressive family House Music is a baby with two Daddies. If you like it smooth and soulful, you’re a fan of the musical style pioneered by Knuckles and other fore fathers like Paul Johnson. If you like it hard fast and raw, well then you’re probably more in sink with Ron.

Ron Hardy made a name for himself throwing down underground black disco at a Chi Town club called Den One. He left in 1977 to seeking greener pastures in California but returned to Chicago to head up a renamed Warehouse in 1982. Spinning at the music box, Hardy managed to steal a lot of Knuckles’s thunder with his manic drug fueled energy. While Frankie focused on sound and technique, Ron was all about the energy. His energy was so intense that many who saw him spin, even all these years later claim he is the best DJ in the world. Like many artists with such a captivating level of energy he tragically died as a result of the drugs that fueled his mind blowing sessions.

Hardy is not only responsible, in part, for house music as I know and love it today; he is also responsible, in part, for Acid House. Young Acid House producers waited outside the music box to give Hardy their tracks because, “If he said he loved something that was it. But if Ron Hardy had said he didn’t like it, that would have been the Acid.” Hardy dropped the tracks and the dance floor cleared, but Hardy forced it down the crowd’s throat until they liked. So if you like Acid House, or just prefer your music a little more cut up, poor some out the cup for Ron Hardy.

I found this when scraping around Youtube. I really hate posting Youtube video's on here too much because they really don't increase site traffic, but I had to put this one up. It’s a great video, a good song, and there is a party at my house.

It sorta has a LCD Sound System vibe to it, but it’s more British and slightly less awesome, but still rocking my sox right off.

Animated Lily Allen! Yowza!

This music video is off the hook awesome! OFF THE HOOK AWESOME! A smoking hot animated Lily Allen and international Playboy/DJ Mark Ronson. It’s really, really cool.



I wish I could be an international jet set bad boy DJ like Mark Ronson. Also, I heard about a recent concert that Lily Allen gave, seems the girl is a bad ass Skastress.

Did I mention that this song is off the hook. Chris Lake has a remix floating around that I also find quite smashing.

New Rave is Dead!

I don't believe it. I think it's still going to keep going. The question that determines whose right is: Does it die out as a cheeky flash in the pan fad or become a movement like that electro sound which is so HUGE right now?

Watch the big boys, they will decide if it lives or dies. For they are the gods of the mob.

Ferry Corsten - Holding On

Ok, I know its, like, so main stream to like Ferry Corsten but I do. He is in my very humble opinion one of the top producers in the world. One of the reason's I like Ferry Corsten is that his sound is so versatile. If you listen to some of his stuff, it runs the gambit from his super chill remix of Song For X to his punk house dabblings with Rock Your Body, Rock . Personally I think his best song is It’s Time which lands at an amazing cross section of musical influences, and still manages to not be a train wreck of clashing sounds, styles and genres.

Check out this music video, of his song holding on. It’s more chill then most of his stuff, but still pretty awesome.



I only wish people would stop worshipping the guy and just enjoy his music.

The Teddy Bears Stockholm

The Teddy Bears Stockholm have this incredible song, you've probably heard there song Cobra Style. The song below is the new track. It has a great 1998 feel to it. I guess that could be an insult but it just sounds like a lot of the pop music coming out at that time, but it’s got a ton of pretty explicit drug references. It’s a pretty cool video.



Also check out the videos for Cobra style. There were two cuts for this the first. Well its kicks ass. Its the directors cut. It got explicit content, but hey it’s all good. I first saw it on this really cool music video podcast called wave form which you can get by poking around on I-Tunes.

House Music All Night Long! House Music All Night Long!

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.
And from this groove came the groove of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared,
"Let there be HOUSE!"
and house music was born.

I love all Electronic Dance Music, and pretty much everything in that could be hit with the broader label of Electronica, but House music is my Favorite. I don't know what it is exactly but ever since I heard Homework back in Junior High School, I have been jackin' my body.

Now this blog isn't meant to focus solely on what I would label House music. I don't want to be stuck to four on the floor rhythms, or 120-140 beats per minute. Like I said, I pretty much like it all. But House music is where my home is.

When ever people ask me what house is I will launch into a bit of the history and/or some of the technical aspects of what makes House, House. But if they don't get it I send them over to Ishkur's Guide to Electronic music. Ishkur's guide is an amazing and witty display of webgenuity. He's currently working on v. 3.0 but who knows when we'll see that. Anyway, Ishkur has it all broken down, and it humorous, and its sonic, so people get electronic dance music fast when you show them that.

I like what could be described as funky house, but sometimes I like to get down to some classic grooves. One of my favorite DJ's of all time is Frankie Knuckles. Not only is Mr. Knuckles the father of house music, he's also the inspiration for the character Knuckles in the sonic video games. So where do I go when I want to listen to Mr. Knuckles drop some tracks? Deep House page that's where. They also have a ton of articles to read. Music Video - Timo Maas Feat. Kelis

Ultra records is a lable that makes is bank primarily by importing and repressing hits from across the ocean. I was happy to find in my Youtube browsing this music video for a song by Timo Maas. Help Me Features the vocal stylings of songsteress Kelis of Milkshake fame. Its dark Sci-Fi inspired sound drew my in instantly. I dropped this track at a party once and people had fun. I hope you do too!

The videos are really cool because they heavily use both the rythem and the ambiance of the music.
Prinzhorn Dance Schools music isn't incredibly complex, but it does make you want to shake your booty!

DJ New

DJ New is a DJ based out of this crazy place called Nova Scotia. Sources tell me its located in Canada somewhere on the east coast of that great nation. DJ New's sound is a big bad blend of Techno, Electro, and Minimal. The resulting sonic smoothie is an astonishingly refreshing beverage for your ears. DJ New has been on the bill with some pretty big names; Misstress Barbara, Christian Smith and Junior Sanchez being a few of the more widely known ones.

As well as being a DJ, Promoter, DJ New also has a magazine with a really cool website. Electric Atlantic has all sorts of cool articles, a forum and some snazzy merch. You can get there by conveniently clicking on the picture at the top of the post or by clicking here.


DJ New's mix A New Oddessy is an amazing sonic journey with 37 tracks in it blended over 68 minutes. Its really an experience. Done with Alberton live, it shows us that technology can be our friend. This Track from Corinne Bailey Rae is pretty awesome. the music video ain't bad either. The track has a cool sound that anyone who liked the Mark Ronson Ablum will love.

Matt Soda - Bringing House back!

I met Matt Soda on the Rootz Records message boards. The kid was putting out great stuff then and he's just kept getting better.

One of the things I love about Matt's music is that it has a great old school feel. Keep in mind, though that for me old school is the stuff coming out around the turn of the century, we aren't talking 80's retro or Second Summer of Love here. Matt manages to create his blast from the past sound, while maintaining a fresh, inovative feel in his music, which is an amazing feature in an artist.

Matt's recently been doing some remix work for some boys out of Chi town including Sean Biddle. Matt has tracks out on Immense, Control Recordings, Bid Muzik, Prompt Digital, Direct Drive Digital , and he has a remix of a Sean Biddle Track coming out as a the kick off track for a newly revamped Noctournal records. Take a peak at beatport to see what he has going on.

Matt's graciously let me share some of his music with you. It has some good old fashion funk to it, plus a little of that distortion the kiddies wet themselves over now days, and its all wrapped up in a classy package. So check out his Sky High Remix of Top of the world.

Tito Tito is a talented producer, DJ, and Classical Violinist currently out of New Jersey. Yes, some good things do come from Jersey, Kevin Smith movies being another example. Strap yourselves in this time vortex is unstable

So, after getting the LCD Sound System Video I kept poking around on Youtube and quickly found myself watching the video below.


This video is ridiculous to well the extreme. It's sorta retro, sorta ravor, and sorta retro ravor. I think it was an attempt to play up similaries to Blondie. Anyway the video is what a stone Brittney Spears would have done in the 1980's.

Despite how silly, cheesy, and boardering on terrible the video is, the song is actually pretty good. So, if you can't stand the video, just minimize the browser and pump up the volume.

Ok, so maybe the song is cheesy too. So kill me.


One the other hand here is another video that has a really cool retro acid feel.

Not a bad song in its own right.
